Israel Rejects Appeal To Free Palestinian Prisoner On Hunger Strike

Israel refuses to release Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike

Tel Aviv, Aug 16 : A Israeli military court denied an appeal for the release of an unnamed Palestinian prisoner who’s health has been deteriorating due to his hunger strike of 165 days in protest against his being held without trial or charges according to a local newspaper.
Justice Eyal Yinon ruled that even with Khalil Awawdeh’s declining medical state, “the danger he poses isn’t enough to allow the release of his son”, Xinhua news agency quoted Israel’s Ha’aretz newspaper as declaring in the article.

The judge stated that the progress of Awawdeh’s health “rests in his own shoulders” and the court has to hope he will be able to end the hunger strike.

Ahlam Haddad Awawdeh’s lawyer has confirmed that the appeal was not granted and stated that “the ruling is a threat to the life of her client” she added that she intends to file a petition with the Supreme Court in an attempt to let him go.

Awawdeh was taken to a hospital on the 10th of August after his health state deteriorated.

Israel insists the claim that Awawdeh is a member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, while he is denial of the allegations.

The Islamic Jihad demanded his release during the Egyptian-brokered ceasefire agreement with Israel that ended the three-day war in the Gaza Strip earlier this month.

The group did not , however declare him an individual member.
