The first phase of the Isotopes for Rhino Horn Phase 1 was successful.

Chennai, November 19, : , After the successful first phase of Rhisotope Project’s Rhisotope Project was completed, Russias integrated nuclear power giant Rosatom launched the Paterson community outreach program in Eastern Cape, South Africa.
Rosatom stated that the Rhisotope Project, a collaborative global project using nuclear science and radioactivity to reduce rhinoceros poaching, was launched at South Africa’s Buffalo Kloof Private Game Reserve in May.

In the first phase of the project, two rhino horns were carefully injected with a small amount of totally harmless stable isotopes.

Scientistically speaking, Phase 1 of Rhisotope Project proved that radioisotopes placed into rhino horns remain there and don’t move into animals.

This proves that the project is safe for animals and marks a significant milestone.Rosatom stated that Phase 2 will begin in January 2022.

Rosatom reports that the next stage, which will be the community outreach, is in progress.A large-scale aquaponics system was inaugurated in Paterson on November 16.

Aquaponics refers to a method of growing plants and fish together.

James Larkin (Director of Radiation and Health Physics Unit, University of Witwatersrand) said that the Rhisotope Project had reached a major milestone. He was also the project’s founder.

Rosatom was the original sponsor for the Rhisotope Project. He also launched the Eastern Cape aquaponics program and the Eastern Cape education programme.

Aquaponic experts La Pieus Aqua (LPA) installed the Aquaponic system.

This local firm is well-known for installing systems in schools and community projects across Africa.

Rikalize Reinecke (18 years old) is the CEO of LPA.She started her aquaculture farm and aquaponics farm in 2014 as an ecology activist.

Aquaponics has been called the “most innovative farming technique of the 21st century.” You can process your food at home and make an income.Reinecke said that one system could feed four to six families.

Rosatom states that all the produce will be used to provide nutritious and healthy vegetables for local orphanages and soup kitchens, and to sell the produce to lodges in order to sustain the program.Already, the first harvest has been delivered to the closest Safari Lodge. It also generated the lodge’s first income.

Multifaceted, the Rhisotope Project relies on these key principles: demand reduction, horn devaluation and community investment.Education is also an important part of rhino research.Data collection and data collection are some other aspects.

The project will focus on these principles and aim to reduce rhino horn demand on international markets as well as increase the detection of the horn when it crosses international borders.

Experts are certain that the project, which has over 10,000 radiation detection units installed at different ports of entry around the world, will significantly reduce the difficulty of transportation and increase the chances of arresting and identifying smugglers.

After the necessary research has been done and the proof of concept is established, the technique can be made available to private and public rhino owners across Africa and worldwide.

Rosatom stated earlier that the intellectual property, as well as training or assistance will be freely made available to any conservation organization who wishes to use this process to protect animals from poaching.

Ryan Collyer is the CEO of Rosatom Central & Southern Africa. He stated that the aquaponics concept is built on sustainable development and an environmental responsibility.

This is in direct alignment with Rosatom’s core values.
