Thiruvananthapuram : , Nov 30, 2012 – Since his “shocking” inclusion as a cabinet minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, the ‘new’son-in-law’ of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, has been a ‘new’ son in-law.Mohammed Riyas continues to be featured in the news, and the latest buzz is that his goal is to become the “uncrowned King” of the CPI-M in his home district Kozhikode. CPI-M is currently preparing for the next state party conference, which will be held in Ernakulam next.The party elects new office bearers at every level.
However, in Kozhikode Riyas is not keen on incumbent district secretary K.Mohanan – who has the strong backing Elamaram Kareem – who was a former state industries Minister and now a member the Upper House.
Riyas is the Minister of State Public Works Department.His last visit to a guest house in his district was covered by media.
He took action against two employees who were not performing their jobs properly.
His critics claim that he is playing to gallery members and arrives at inspection with the media in tow.
When he was questioned about his actions, he replied that he was very busy from morning to night so hardly had the time to look at it.
A few others are still reeling from the sudden arrival and promotion he received after winning his first Assembly election from Beypore, Kozhikode.Shamseer has had a conflict with Riyas both inside and outside the Assembly on a few issues.Both were found to have diametrically opposed views, and this was a point where the opposition took on the CPI -M.
A media critic spoke on condition of anonymity to say that Riyas is an undue important person.
“CPI-M is not open to the public like other parties.
Anyone who has been following politics in the state knows that Vijayan is the one running the show at the party.The party is now heading to its state party conference.
One will have to wait a little longer to see if Riyas has eaten more than he can chew,” said the critic.
The fate of Shamseer is also eagerly awaited.
Vijayan has already dropped enough hints that Shamseer wasn’t right.Now all that remains is whether Shamseer will retain his seat in the CPI-M state committee, the most powerful decision-making organ of the party.
