Tehran, Nov 29, : Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani stated that Iran has a “serious demand” for the lifting US sanctions during the new round in Vienna talks.Official IRNA news agency reported Monday. Bagheri Kani, a Vienna-based journalist, stated that “We have entered negotiations with a serious intent and strong preparation to lift illegal and oppressive sanctions.” Bagheri Kani spoke to IRNA just hours before the start of talks on the revival of 2015’s nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)
According to Xinhua news agency, the Iranian official said that he had attended meetings in Vienna with some of the participants in the talks over the past few days.These included “useful conversations” with Russian and Chinese delegations.
Bagheri Kani (also Iran’s deputy foreign Minister) was asked about the duration of the current round of talks.He said that while it is impossible to predict the length of the talks, the delegations will discuss the future perspective of the round of talks at Monday’s meeting.”It is likely that the timing and framework of this round will be determined.”
Nearly six months have passed since the pause in negotiations regarding the restoration of Iran’s nuclear agreement.Iran and the remaining parties, with indirect participation by the US, will resume talks Monday in Vienna.
Former President Donald Trump’s US government withdrew from 2015 agreement in May 2018, and unilaterally reimposed sanctions against Iran.Iran has been gradually withdrawing from certain parts of the deal’s commitments since May 2019 in response.
