“The supreme leader’s fatwa on the use of nuclear weapons is clear to everyone,” he said, in reference to the decree of religion of the supreme leader of Iran Ali Khamenei, which prohibits the possession and use of weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons Xinhua news agency said.

He called for the need for the implementation of every aspect of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, a important international treaty that aims to achieve nuclear disarmament He also said that the creation of an unarmed zone in the Middle East should be given the utmost importance, and for which Iran is ready to cooperate.

Concerning the ongoing negotiations in Vienna regarding the re-launch of the nuclear agreement of 2015, he said while Iran has been committed to reaching an “strong and solid agreement” however, the result of the talks is also contingent on Washington’s “willingness to reach an agreement” and the “necessary flexibility and realist approach in the actual.”

Amir-Abdollahian demanded the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to not politicize the technical aspects of Iran’s nuclear program in an effort to resolve any remaining issues related to the implementation of IAEA security measures in Iran.

A fresh round of talks to revive the nuclear agreement known informally as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) started in Vienna on Thursday following the five-month gap.

Iran has signed the nuclear agreement with the world’s powers in July 2015, committing to limit the nuclear program in exchange for the elimination of sanctions against the country. However the then US president Donald Trump pulled Washington out of the agreement.

The talks to revive the JCPOA began in April 2021 in the Austrian capital, but were suspended in March 2022 due to of the political differences between Tehran and Washington.
