Instead Of Housing Rohingyas, Deport Them: Vhp On Union Minister\'s Remark

In lieu of housing Rohingyas, move them to deport these people: VHP on Union Minister’s comment

New Delhi, Aug 17 : The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Wednesday expressed its dismay at Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri’s comments on settling illegal Rohingya migrants in the country. They also stated that the Rohingyas shouldn’t be given housing facilities and should be deported.
The statement made by the VHP follows Puri’s announcement that caused a massive controversy that was then clarified by the Home Ministry on Wednesday afternoon saying that it had not given any direction for the provision of economically weaker sections (EWS) apartments to the illegal Rohingya migrants in Bakkarwala in New Delhi.

The clarification was made shortly after the Union Minister applauded the decision to relocate around 1100 Rohingya refugee in Delhi to apartments with basic amenities.

Concerning stories in some segments of the media on illegal Rohingya migrants The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has clarified that it hasn’t given any instructions to offer EWS apartments for illegal Rohingya migrants in Bakkarwala in New Delhi, according to the Home Ministry.

The Ministry said that the Delhi government had proposed moving the Rohingyas to a new area.

The MHA has instructed the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi to ensure that the illegal Rohingya migrants remain at the present location , as they are the reason that MHA has already taken up the issue of their expulsion with the country concerned through the MEA it stated.

“Illegal foreigners will be detained in detention facilities until deportation in accordance with the law.The Delhi government has not yet declared the current location an detention centre. They have been instructed to declare it immediately,” the MHA added.

In the past, Puri in a tweet had stated that “India has always been welcoming to those seeking asylum in the country. In a landmark move, all refugees from the #Rohingya #Refugees will be moved into EWS flats in Bakkarwala area of Delhi. They will be provided with basic facilities, UNHCR IDs and round-the-clock security by police.”

However VHP’s joint international secretary Surendra Jain has told IANS that any decision to move the Rohingyas won’t be aligned with the intent of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

“The people are aware that the Rohingyas are involved in anti-national or anti-social activities. We must also recognize the fact that Hindu refugees from Pakistan and Bangladesh remain in terrible conditions in camps.

This is not in line with the ideals of CAA,” said Jain.

The VHP’s central president, Alok Kumar, said, “We are shocked by an announcement of Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri terming the Rohingyas as refugees and allotting them the EWS flats in Bakkarwala, Delhi.”

“We may be able to remind Puri of the declaration made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Parliament on December 10, 2020, stating that Rohingyas won’t be recognized in India (Rohingyas”ko Kabhi Bhi Sweekar Nai Kiya jaega).”
