This is according to a study that scientists have done.A system with spin coherences of long duration makes it a more useful resource than a quantum computer.
It allows for quantum operations and logic gates that can be implemented more efficiently, so the system is a better quantum sensors than systems with short-lived coherence. This was stated in a Science and Technology Ministry press release.

It said that this newly discovered property of atomic systems at lower temperatures can be used for quantum sensing and information processing to apply in quantum computations and secure communications. The new technique allows for non-invasive study of the dynamics and real-time behavior quantum phenomena, such as quantum phase changes.

The fundamental quantum property that atoms have is spin. This applies to elementary particles like electrons, protons and other atoms.

Their quantum nature becomes more apparent as atoms cool to lower temperatures. The spin degree of freedom, which is an important topic in quantum information processing, was not discussed.

However, dynamical measurements of spins at extremely low temperatures are available. The reason is that most detection methods in cold-atom experiments can be destructive, and cause damage to the atomic samples during detection.

The new method that they developed was used by a team of scientists at the Raman Research Institute, Bengaluru. This is an independent institute of Science & Technology.

This temperature is very close to absolute zero, so quantum properties prevail over classical observations. It’s also the first time spin dynamics were detected in this temperature range.

The new technology allowed scientists to measure the properties and life span of atomic spin states with an improvement of a million times the detection sensitivity of the current technology. The scientists proved that the low-temperature spin coherence is durable.

This work was led by Sanjukta and Dibyendu, as well as Saptarishi Chaudhuri, Ph.D.student Maheswar Bhar and Subhajit Bha, RRI.It used coherent laser drive to increase the signal strength for spin noise by one million times. The spin noise spectroscopy method was made usable by spectroscopists who need to measure systems with low signal levels.Physics Review Research published the research.

This work was financially supported by the Department of Science and Technology and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

The RRI team claims that this work is influenced by Sir C.V.Raman, Nobel laureate for light scattering.

The team claims that this technology could be used to create devices capable of detecting small magnetic fields. This is a significant application in prospecting and mining.

This technology can also be used in biomedical imaging where it is necessary to measure small magnetic fields over time.
