Ministry of Defence has notified the Department of Defence Production that the positive indigenization list was available as part of efforts to reduce imports and achieve self-reliance in defense manufacturing.

This list includes 2,500 items that have been imported and 351 items which are expected to be imported in the next three-years.

They will be only available from the Indian Industry.

The Defence ministry stated that “This Aatmanirbhar initiative (Self-Reliant), will help to save approximately Rs 3,000 crore annually in foreign currency.”

Two positive indigenisations lists of ammunition, weapons, platforms and systems were notified earlier by the Department of Military Affairs to encourage self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

This month, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, underlining the necessity of Aatmanirbhart (Self Reliant India), said that India can’t depend on any other country for defense technologies because it is strong, geographically located, and faces security threats.

Rajnath Singh addressed the 94th Annual Meeting of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, on the topic “India Beyond 75” in New Delhi.

His vision was to turn India into a world-class defence manufacturing center in the future.

He stressed that India’s focus should be to modernise its Armed Forces as well as to create an Aatmanirbhar defense industry, which will help protect the country against both conventional and nonconventional threats.

His words were: “For India’s security and the safety of its citizens, we must develop our defense capacity and capabilities so that every country can think one thousand times before devising any plan that could endanger our interests.” The government isn’t trying to strike anyone. It wants to prepare the Armed Forces so that they are ready to respond to any country’s enemies at all times.
