India, Sri Lanka to issue stamps of democracy in celebration of the 75th anniversary of Independence

By Susitha Fernando Colombo 16 August : A set of stamps that are commermerative are planned to be jointly issued by India and Sri Lanka to mark the 75 years of independence of the island nation.

An MoU is expected to be signed between Sri Lanka and the United States to launch an array of stamps that are based on the theme of “Democracy,” Sri Lanka Cabinet spokesman and Media Minister Bandula gunawardena told reporters on Tuesday.

The postal authorities of India as well as Sri Lanka are to jointly issue stamps in celebration of the 75th anniversary of Sri Lanka’s independence from British rule.The stamps will portray the parliaments of both South Asian neighbours.

Sri Lanka Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena stated that the prime minister of Sri Lanka Dinesh Gunawardena announced that 3,000 souvenir sheets and 2,000 first day covers are scheduled to be swapped between India and Sri Lanka.

After India reached Independence after a long struggle on the 15 1947, Sri Lanka became independent on February 4, 1948.
