Report: India ranks third in transplantation and organ donation globally.

New Delhi, Nov 27, : India is now third in the world for organ donation and transplantation.The total number of organs transplants performed annually in India has increased to 12,746 in 2019, according to Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
Mandaviya cited a report from Global Observatory on Donation and Transplantation.

“It makes it immensely proud to share the fact that the total number organ transplants performed per year in India has increased from 4,990 to 12,746 per year in 2013 to 12,746 per year in 2019 and India now ranks third globally, only behind USA and China,” he said as he addressed the 12th Indian Organ Donation Day in presence of Bharati Pravin Paiwar, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare.

“Similarly, the rate of organ donation has increased by four times compared to 2012-13.We still have a large gap between the number patients who need transplantation and those who are willing to donate their organs after they die.He said that the Covid-19 pandemic has negatively affected organ donation and transplantation activities.”We hope to end this soon.”

He said that organ donation is linked to Indian values.”Our culture places emphasis on ‘Shubh” and ‘Laabh, where individual well-being is rooted in the greater good for the community.As society is rapidly changing, the sanctity of every life and the preciousness of each one are becoming more visible to all.Soon people who have committed Angdaan will be treated with the same respect as those who give their hard-earned wealth to charity.

Indian Organ Donation Day has been observed annually since 2010.It is a day to remember the contributions of deceased donors and their families to society.

The State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization of Maharashtra (SOTTO), won the award for the highest number deceased donor transplantations.ROTTO, for the Western Region, was awarded the best performance.
