New Delhi, December 27, 2008 : .Sanjay Bangar, a former India batting coach, has praised Ajinkya Rahane for his performance on Day 1, the Boxing Day Test in Centurion against South Africa.
He said that the veteran batter was a great player and came out firing — even though he had been relieved from vice-captaincy. Rahane started off brilliantly on Day 1, the Boxing Day test.
He smashed eight barriers and remained undefeated on 40.In the last session, he also formed a vital 73-run partnership.
He was not allowed to play in the team as he lost the Vice-Captaincy position of the Test Team in the run-up for the South Africa tour.Rahane was however supported by the team management for the Boxing Day test.
Sometimes, you can be relieved by certain events.His being released from the vice-captaincy would send a signal to him.This obviously affects all players.He is all fire.Bangar said that he is very positive about his footwork and has gotten rid of all the negative balls.” Star Sports spoke to Bangar.
He is the type of player that likes quick and good starts.This was much like Rahul Dravid’s way of starting his innings.
So that he could get to 20, he used to prefer to do it quickly so that a lot less pressure was on him.Rahane is also a good example of this.He has done well in all innings, and he’s been able to settle down nicely.” he said.
