Kanpur, Nov 24, : , Team India’s stand in captain Ajinkya Rahane confirmed Wednesday that Shreyas will make his Test debut against New Zealand in the first match in the two-Test series at the Green Park Stadium on Thursday. Rahane spoke to the media on the eve the opening game and stated that “ShreyasIyer” would be making his debut.
Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma are not available, so Mayank Agarwal is expected to open the batting.
Rahane stated that India would be missing all the big names but that the young men stepping in were strong enough to compete at Test level.
Rahul’s injury was described by Rahane as “a huge blow obviously.” He did well in England, he was in great form, obviously we will be missing him.We have men who are capable of doing that job, and who have done well in the past.Don’t be too concerned about the opening slot.
Although Rahane did not give out the final combination, there was strong evidence to expect three spinners. He stated that pitches would likely assist spin as each team maximizes home advantage due to the World Test Championship points at stake in each match.
Rahane stated that the combination was not certain.”But India is known for its spin-friendly wickets. The ball tends to keep slightly low and slow.We expect this, but are not sure how the wicket will perform.
We will have to wait until tomorrow to assess the situation.
