Ind V Zim: Have Picked Up From Where I Had Left Off Before Injury, Says Deepak Chahar

IND ZIM vs. ZIM In the match, I taken up the point I left prior to injury, claims Deepak Chahar

Harare 19th August : After an unbeatable performance of 3-27 in India’s 10-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the first ODI the spinner Deepak Chahar feels that he has regained his bowling swagger from the place he was before injuries kept him out for nearly seven months.
Chahar has been out of cricket from the T20I series against the West Indies in February due to a left quadriceps injury.

He later suffered an injury to the back that forced Chahar out of IPL 2022 with Chennai Super Kings. He is in the reserve team for the Asia Cup, starting from August 27 in the UAE.

“Its not in my control to decide whether I will be chosen or not (for the Men’s T20 World Cup). However, I’ve done a great job.I think I’ve recovered from where I left off (before the injury). In the match, excluding the initial two overs, which included the first I bowled well.

I bowled seven runs in one time, which shows that my fitness levels are good,” said Chahar in the press conference after the match.

When asked about the his preparations he put in to prepare for his international return, Chahar explained, “I knew I would make my return in this series that is an ODI-based series.

Therefore, I began loading my body in the right way. When I began the bowling process, in the initial session I bowled 6 overs. Before I came here, I took part in three practice games which I bowled my full quota of 10 overs.”

“Difficulty was present (in making an international comeback).Because you’re expecting something from yourself and trying to find the place you have in the team.If you aren’t playing for a long period, in the meantime, players who played also have performed and secured their positions in the squad.

“So in order to regain your place in the team, you must perform well. It’s not a single great performance, but several excellent performances are required. It was evident that pressure was present and I wanted to show my skills at every opportunity , because that’s the only thing the player has manage in his hands.”

Although he played his delivery generally in well-defined length zones, the shorter ball was effective for Chahar as he squeezed Innocent Kaia for room on the pull, and the thick edge was snatched by wicketkeeper Sanju Samson on the second attempt.

He came back in his next over to find Tadiwanashe marumani smacking at a short ball , and was nicked behind by Samson. After the power play, Chahar was hit with his third scalp when his final swing at a full ball snared Wesley Madhevere lbw while going for the flick.

“My plan is always very simple. If the ball is swinging aim to bowl it at full length and score as many wickets as you can.If the ball isn’t swinging, there’s an option B or Plan C.In the course of the match that I was bowling, the ball swung for six-seven hours. So I had a basic strategy to bowl full and mix the swing to make the batsmen confused,” said Chahar.
