However, Ravindra Patel and Patel made a strong resistance.

Axar Patel struck on seventh ball of the final session. He trapped Henry Nicholls lbw, with the one turning in slightly and hitting the back pad.Ravindra Jadeja received some assistance from the pitch, getting one gripped and turning past Kane Williason’s bat. This was very similar to Umesh Yadav’s jaffa which squared off Williamson in the second.Jadeja’s next over saw Williamson trapped on the backfoot by a ball that came in low and was caught.

Rachin Ravindra and Tom Blundell batted 54 balls together in an attempt to save the match.Captain Ajinkya Rahane brought Ravichandran Ashwin into the match and created a chance.

Blundell was saved however by a sharp turn on an appeal to the lbw.India won the review, but it was lost as the ball was moving down the leg-side.

Ashwin took ‘lundell’s wicket in a very strange manner in his next over.Blundell came out to defend the turning delivery.

The ball struck the rough and rolled to the left, causing the bails to be reopened.Lucky for Kyle Jamieson, Cheteshwar Pujara wasn’t there to react to his left and couldn’t catch Ashwin.

Jadeja made sure that Jamieson’s let-off on the second ‘all was not costly.Jamieson was caught lbw by one spinning past its outer edge to hit his back pad.

Jadeja took his fourth wicket of the innings after beating Tim Southee’s outer edge with the bat and trapping him lbw in front off-stump.Southee accepted the review but it didn’t change his decision.

As India was in a race against the clock to wrap the innings, Ravindra and Patel stood strong in defense.

Ashwin “truck” Patel’s pad, but was not given out as the ball was pitched outside leg.India won the review, but they were unable to alter the decision and lost all reviews.Ravindra and Patel managed only 10 runs in 52 balls, while New Zealand pulled off a narrow escape.

India took three crucial wickets earlier, including one each on Umesh Yadav’s first and last balls of the second session to make a comeback. After failing to get a wicket in the first session of the match, India was able to pick one on the very first ball after lunch.

Umesh Yadav tried to pull a shortball from William Somerville, but it fell to Shubman Gill, who ran in from fine-leg, and completed a spectacular forward diving catch.

Yadav continued to cause problems for Latham and Kane Williamson by delivering a lot of deliveries that were low and directed towards the stumps.

The duo put on a strong performance, hitting the occasional boundary.Latham scored his second half-century with three runs in the middle of the match.

Four overs later, Latham tried to push through the off-side and cut off Ashwin’s stumps.Ashwin was also dismissed, surpassing Harbhajan Singh’s 417 wickets and becoming the third highest wicket-taker in Test cricket.

Ross Taylor nearly lost his nerve on Ashwin’s zero as there was no evidence to prove otherwise.Jadeja trapped Ross Taylor in front of the wicket, ending his anxious stay at the crease.

Latham and William Somerville continued from 4/1.They put up a strong resistance to keep India at bay during a wicketless first session. They scored 75 runs in just 31 overs. They were very rigid in defense, but Ashwin often troubled them while trying to find boundaries against Yadav’s pace.

Latham was the first one to drive off Yadav’s boundary, while Somerville drove straight.Somerville then made delightful back-foot drives on consecutive Yadav through-side deliveries and was fortunate to get a boundary from the outer edge of Ishant Sharma.

India seemed a little frustrated at not being able to get their first wicket of day.India was so desperate to get a wicket that they took a review of a Latham lbw despite the impact outside of the off-stump.This review was a waste as New Zealand survived the remainder of the session unscathed.

Brief Scores: India 345, Tim Southee 5/69) & 234/7d (ShreyasIyer 65, Kyle Jamieson 3/40).New Zealand 296 drew with India in 142.3 overs.(Tom Latham 95 & Axar Patel 5/62) 165/9 in the 98 overs.(Tom Latham 52, William Somerville 36, Ravindra Jadeja 3/35, Ravichandran Ashwin 3/35, Ravindra Ashwin 3/40, Ravindra Ashwin 3/35, Ravindra Ashwin 3/35, Ravindra Jadeja 3/35, Ravindra Ashwin 3/35, Ravindra Jaya 4/40, Ravindra Ashwin 3/35, Ravindraja 3)
