Mumbai, Dec 5, : New Zealand all rounder Daryl Mitchell said Sunday that the pitch in the ongoing second test against India was very difficult. He said that his team has had to transfer pressure back onto the bowlers, while still focusing on their strengths.
New Zealand is now 140/5 in 45 overs at stumps after India declared at 267/7.They are staring at a huge defeat with 400 runs remaining.
It was disappointing to not be out there and kick on, but it was nice that we could get a partnership started.It’s a challenging surface.The ball is definitely turning there with your name on.It’s about finding ways to put pressure on the bowlers at times and staying true to your strengths.Mitchell spoke out after the play to chat with broadcasters.”It was ultimately my downfall today, but I did enjoy some time in the middle.”
Mitchell made 60 runs off 92 balls.He was able to hit seven fours and two sixes with his bat.”The way Agarwal played in both innings of India’s first innings, he put pressure upon our spinners, and he set the example for how I wanted to go about taking on the Indian spinners.
Mitchell commented on the challenges of playing Test cricket under different conditions.Test cricket is a wonderful game.They are constantly throwing things at your face and you’re doing the exact same thing back.
You just have to keep at it for long periods of times and keep trying to win every little battle.
The 30-year-old said that New Zealand will do its best to avoid the inevitable and signed off.”It’s obviously a difficult situation we’re currently in, we have two more days to bat.It was about going out and playing our game.We’re trying to keep the pressure on their bowlers as long as possible and hopefully that will put them in a position where they might have a chance come day five.It’s definitely very difficult.”
