Bengaluru : , Nov 21, 2011 – Incessant rainfalls in Karnataka have had an impact on vegetable production, particularly in Bengaluru.The tomato’s price has nearly reached Rs 100 per kilogram.
The steep increase in prices was due to insufficient vegetable supply to markets.

Since the past 15 days, continuous rainfall has been observed in the state.

Most of the vegetable crops on farms have been destroyed by flooding.

Tomatoes are available at Rs 100-Rs 110 while onion can be purchased between Rs 40 and Rs 60.Bottleguard, Chow-chow and radish, which were previously available at Rs 15-30, are being offered for sale now at Rs 30-60.

The price of potato is between Rs 30 and Rs 50 According to traders, the tomato price will reach Rs 150 if it continues to rain.

The price of beans is Rs 72; brinjal white Rs 99; capsicum Rs 130, and peas at Rs 220 per kilogram.This leaves the average man gasping for breath.

Farmers who were able to harvest tomatoes and other vegetables have won a huge jackpot.

An 15-kg box of tomatoes can be purchased for Rs 1500-2500.
