An Indian-origin researcher in the United States has found that Immunity against COVID-19 may last for a lengthy period.
Deepta Bhattacharya, who is an Indian-origin professor at the University of Arizona, said that the antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 infection last for around five months in a human body.
The study has concluded the result after analysing antibody samples from 6,000 infected people with coronavirus.
The study used information where many concerns have arisen about immunity lasting against Coronavirus infection.
According to the findings, when a virus first infects the cells, our immune system plants short-lived plasma cells that are responsible for producing antibodies to fight the virus immediately.These antibodies appear in blood tests within two weeks of infection.
Later, in the second stage of the immune response, long durable plasma cells are created, upon which, high-quality antibodies arise to improve the immunity against Covid-19 virus.The researchers have studied such antibody levels for months in the infected people and concluded.
In the past, several studies concluded that antibody production from initial infections will be low and drops quickly providing only short-term immunity.Now, the latest research has given the ability to test for antibodies accurately against Covid-19.
