Los Angeles, Aug 16 : Hollywood star Idris Elba is said to have walked out of discussions to become the next James Bond after being named the favourite to succeed Daniel Craig. Elba is instead believed to be planning to launch “his own franchise of films,” however, he has suggested 007s who are suitable to producer Barbara Broccoli, reports aceshowbiz.com.
A source said to The Sun: “Fans and Barbara were looking for Idris but he is looking to make his own thing.However, he’s suggested names to play the role of 007.
“He’s informally in the process of making decisions because the producer has been in talks with producers for a long time.”
Daniel 54-year-old Daniel resigned after his 5th Bond appearance in the film of the same year “No Time to Die”, with Barbara later saying Elba was in her plans to become the spy, calling him “a fantastic actor”.
With Idris out of the race, Henry Cavill and Rege-Jean Page are the 4/1 bookies’ favorites.They remain front-runners despite a report from a film insider’s report last month that stated that the new James Bond must be aged less than 40 years old and taller than 5ft 10 inches.
A source informed the Daily Star on August 8 that Eon Productions were after a “fresh looking” replacement for Daniel.
They also added that the possibility of bringing in actors in their “late 30s” will permit him to remain in the role for at most a decade, or possibly three films.
The source also said that filming for the next film could begin in the winter of 2023.However, Craig’s successor won’t be revealed until next fall at the most.
The Eon Productions under 40s casting “rule” meant that bookies and fan-favourites like Idris, Henry and Rege-Jean and even the 44-year-old Tom Hardy, would have been disqualified.
ARichard Madden 36 and James Norton, 37, are believed to be in the top spot, with the alleged 5ft 10 height requirement disqualifying Taron Egerton 32, John Boyega, 30 and 35-year-old Kit Harington.
