Bengaluru 7 August : The Wakf board announced on Sunday that it was ready for a legal fight following the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) declared that Idgah Maidan was part of the Revenue Department.Disagreeing with the BBMP’s decision Wakf Board Chairman Shafi Saadi said that the board will engage in an appeal.”The Supreme Court has given a ruling in 1965 that Idgah Maidan is the property of the Wakf board. This means that the decision is not tenable , and the ruling amounts to contempt of the court,” Saadi said.
“We are in contact with legal experts right now,” Saadi said.
The BBMP had previously declared that the property does not belong to the BBMP.
On Saturday, however the BBMP issued an order that stated that Idgah Maidan is the property of the Revenue Department.
Wakf board had submitted a request for a “khata” ( legal document for property) with the BBMP, which was not accepted.
Joint Commissioner Srinivas issued a notice to the Wakf board to submit documents to prove the ownership of Idgah Maidan.
The BBMP gave two months to submit the required documents.
Because the Wakf board was unable to produce the documents required, BBMP declined to issue the Khata and declared the Karnataka Revenue Department to be the default owner of the land.
The Chamarajanagar Citizen’s Forum had submitted an application to celebrate Independence Day on August 15 in the premises of Idgah Maidan.
A few months ago , after the BBMP had requested the Wakf to submit the necessary documents, the row been able to settle down. However, with the most recent BBMP order the most famous row in the city is ready to come back.
