Dubai, December 29, : , The International Cricket Council (ICC), Wednesday selected Jos Buttler of England, Mitchell Marsh from Australia, Mohammad Rizwan, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Wanindu Hasaranga, the wicketkeepers for Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan, to be the ICC T20I player of the year. The coveted award does not include any Indian players.
Rizwan, 29, dominated the 2021 game in the most short format.He scored 1,326 runs over 29 matches with an average of 73.2 and a strike rate of 134.89.
His key role was in Pakistan’s win at the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 semifinals.Also, he scored his maiden T20I century in his career in Lahore against South Africa earlier in the year.
He ended 2021 in Karachi with an amazing knock of 87 against West Indies.
Buttler, a wicketkeeper and batter, scored 589 runs over 14 matches.His average was 65.44.He also had one century and thirteen dismissals.Buttler retired in 2021.
He continued his great form against Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and India and finished the T20 World Cup with 269 runs.
Mitchell Marsh, Australia’s T20 World Cup batsman has also been nominated for the award.He scored 627 runs across 27 matches with an average of 36.88.At a strike rate of 18.37, he also picked up eight wickets.
Marsh felt confident heading into the T20 World Cup tournament, UAE.He had 185 runs across six matches with an average score of 61.66.His strike rate was 146.82.Marsh would save the best for last.He played a match-winning run of 77 from 50 deliveries, consisting six fours and six sixes against New Zealand.
This was Wanindu Hasaranga of Sri Lanka, who became a pioneer in short format spin.He took 36 wickets in just 20 matches, an average 11.63.With 196 runs and a half-century, he established himself as an effective player with the bat.
