Kolkata, Nov 26th : , Delhi’s Kshitij Naved Kaul rose to the top of the leaderboard with a stunning seven-under 65 in round two of the Rs.40 lakh ICC RCGC Open Golf Championship 2021 Powered By Urbana being played at Royal Calcutta Golf Club.
Kaul (69-65) was a 20-year-old winner of the PGTI 2019.He shot the tournament’s best round, with nine birdies and two bogeys.

This brought his 36-hole total to 10-under 134, a two-shot advantage.Kaul gained five spots on his overnight tie sixth.

Panchkula-based Angad Cheema shot a second consecutive 68 as part of the five-way lead.This landed them in second place at eight under 136.

Gurugram’s Ankurchadha (68-69), also joint leader in round 1, ended day two in third at seven-under-137, following his 69 on Friday.

The cut was made at three-over 147.Fifty-three professionals made it to round two.

Kaul, currently 19th in the PGTI Order of Merit, is fresh from his top-20 finishes in his last three events.He had birdies at regular intervals and picked up shots on the front-nine on the second, fourth and seventh holes.This was due to conversions from a range of seven feet to fifteen feet.

After a few erratic tee shots that resulted in bogeys on the 10th, and 11th, Kaul began to slow down.Then he came back with a birdie, on the 12th, followed by four consecutive birdies from the 15th through the 18th.

He missed the 15th and 17th eagles with his 160 yard approach landing within inches of the pin on this one.The promising young talent was rewarded with a 20-foot birdie conversion on 18th.

Ankur Chadha combined four birdies and a bogey in his 69, which featured two conversions at a range from 12 to 20 feet.

At six-under 138, Chandigarh’s Yuvraj S Sandhu, Ahmedabad’s Anshul Patel and Delhi’s Chiragh Kumar were tied fourth.

Sunit Chowrasia, tied eighth at five under 139, was the highest-placed Kolkata player.His second round 68 featured four consecutive birdies on the front-nine.

After a 71 on Friday, Mari Muthu of Bengaluru dropped to eighth, one of the five joint leaders in round one.

Harendra Gupta (73) from Chandigarh, and Noida’s Vikrant Chopra (75), the other overnight joint leaders, fell to tied 12th at three under 141 and tied 18th respectively at one-under 133.

At two-over 146, the 33rd place was held by Mithun Perera (73-73) from Sri Lanka.
Manav Jaini, Delhi, made a hole in one on the second hole of his round of 73.He tied 45th at 3-over 147.
