IANS Rating:

“Sabhaapathy” by Director R.Srinivasa Rao is a fun, lighthearted comedy that, despite all its faults, almost works.

Fate introduces us to Sabhaapathy. He is a straightforward, honest, man without a stutter and announces that he will be entering his own life within five days.

Film’s first half shows the events of five days prior to Fate entering his life. The second half focuses on the problems that fate brings into his life, and the man’s honesty in overcoming them.

“Sabhaapathy” works because of two things. The first is the message the film intends. It gently reminds you that honesty, even though it might not be fashionable in today’s age, can still bring about great rewards.

The movie is a comedy in every sense.

There are only a few scenes that make the film seem serious. One scene powerfully focuses on the worry of a father about his future and the fate of his children.

The film, which also looks at the suffering of those who have a speech impairment, emphasizes the difficulties they face and aims to increase their self-confidence with its final scene.

Srinivasa Rao is rewarded for sending these messages.

Another factor that helps the film succeed is the way Santhanam was created. He is not the main character, but he portrays a hero.

He portrays a young man who struggles with his speech and is determined to get a job.

Santhanam appears fit, unlike his previous films where he looked very thin.Even more impressive is that his responses aren’t abusive nor hurtful. You can see Santhanam’s more reserved performance, which does the film a lot of good.

The supporting cast also gives some outstanding performances in the film.M.S.M.S.He has a great timing ability and comedy scenes are a result of this.Rama plays the role of the heroine’s mom and adds to the humor factor.

Some of these funny portions can elicit laughter and are considered comedy.

There are also portions that don’t make sense or are just plain disgusting. This lowers the quality of the movie.

One sequence shows a drunk Sabhaapathy putting his head on his father’s head. Then, as if this wasn’t bad enough, another sequence involves him, his father and the lady teacher who is there to see him. These sequences leave you feeling sick.

Preeti verma plays Savithri in the film. She does an admirable job. There is a good background score, and one very enjoyable number.

Leo John Paul is the editor and does an excellent job keeping the film short and sweet, so boredom won’t take root.

“Sabhaapathy” is saved, not because of the humor its creators seem to be expecting, but rather by the messages it transmits.
