“Ghostbusters: Afterlife” by Jason Reitman is a dull, lame, but mildly enjoyable film.Technically, it is the third film in the Ghostbusters franchise.
This film tells the story three decades later than the films mentioned.The film follows Callie Spengler, a single mom with a tight budget and two young children.
Phoebe McKenna Grace and Trevor Wolfhard are the main characters.These are Egon Spengler’s grandchildren (Harold Ramis).
Callie, her children and estranged father had left her a crumbling farmhouse in Summerville, Oklahoma.
Phoebe is a nerdy, inquisitive and smart student who moved into her new home.She also made friends with Podcast (Logan Kim), who was a former classmate and loves science.Trevor’s goal is to impress Lucky (Celeste O’Connor), who he met at a drive in restaurant.Callie, Phoebe’s mother, dates Mr Grooberson, Paul Rudd’s summer school teacher.
They experience strange happenings in Summerville, or more correctly, supernatural things.
These include unexplained vibrations, quakes, and even a threat to their lives.Phoebe discovers the identity of her grandfather through a search in her grandfather’s belongings.
Although the cast is entertaining and gives great performances, their writing fails to deliver.Sometimes the attempts to provide humor are stale and sometimes silly.
This is also true for the Ghost Trail that Phoebe and Trevor take on.Sci-fi mysteries are also lacking in suspense.All other elements, such as the love story between Callie, Lucky and Mr Grooberson and Phoebe’s friendship with Podcast, seem thrown away, filler and throwaway.
The film has a lot of good special effects and decent CGI.It also cleverly incorporates visual elements that remind us of the Ghostbusters of old, but they don’t make it outstanding.
