Iyer smashed point off Kyle Jamieson with the first ball of the second over for two runs.He became the 16th Indian batsman to score a Test century in his debut.

This was a remarkable feat considering the circumstances.

“What red-ball requires of you; like playing under pressure and in conditions that are not suitable for you and having to adapt to them, this is exactly what he did.He can drive and play the pull shot, which is his game.He had to wait for the balls to come and then play according.

“He avoided certain shots to minimize the chance of him getting out.His risk management was excellent, I believe.Amre said that he handled himself very well and ensured that Team India received a respectable total.” Amre spoke to IANS via telephonic conversation.

Despite the difficult situation and the slow pitch performing odd tricks, Iyer performed well in meeting the team’s requirements. His game is based upon natural instincts. He loves to dominate. The situation was not right. The team needed to form a partnership.Ravindra Jadeja and Ajinkya Rahane did this.

It was crucial, as it allowed for 300 players to be added to the board.Amre noted that his contribution was crucial in helping India reach 300 runs.

Iyer received his cap from Sunil Gavaskar, a legendary Mumbaikar batter.Amre, who knows Iyer since he was 12 years old at Shivaji Park Gymkhana in Shivaji Park, felt that Iyer’s Test cap from a veteran of the game must have motivated him to do well.

It is a dream for any player to play for India, especially in Tests. He was motivated by being awarded the Test cap by Sunil Gavaskar sir.Perhaps that helped him get a big knock for what he advised. He implemented that,” Amre explained to IANS.

Amre believes that Iyer, a player who hit 12 fours, and two sixes in his knock-of-105, has taken advantage of the opportunity to cash in on it in the absence senior players.”It was a great innings, especially when you consider the pressure. He knew that this was an opportunity with three senior players, Virat, Rohit, and Rahul (injured), resting. He was eager for this chance, especially after he had scored 1,300 (1.321) runs in a historic (Ranji Trophy 2015/16 season for Mumbai). He was eager to find his chance.

Iyer’s 105-run knock rekindled his relationship with Kanpur.Mumbai was under pressure in the 2014/15 Ranji Trophy season.

This was Iyer’s first season of first-class cricket. The tournament’s most successful team lost to Jammu and Kashmir, followed by Railways winning the first innings.

This meant that Uttar Pradesh was the must-win match.

Mumbai was at 53/5 on a green pitch when Iyer struck a remarkable 75 in the first innings to revive the innings and set the stage for the victory over Uttar Pradesh.

Amre, Mumbai’s coach that season, saw parallels between the knock in 2014, and the Test hundred in 2021.

“Both were similar knocks.

He was also under pump at that time.He would have been kicked out if he had failed. The same thing happened here.He was under pressure, like if he didn’t score, then who backed him, such as the selector or team manager, would have been disappointed.

You are giving an opportunity to seniors when they are not there. It is always difficult for them to come, and how can they give a chance to any youngster? The result is positive, I believe.Amre said that the situation is the same as in 2014, when he was fighting for his survival in the team.”

2021 was an exciting year for Iyer.He had injured his right shoulder in March while playing for India in the first ODI.Iyer was eventually admitted to surgery and required extensive rehabilitation. He returned to competitive cricket in September with IPL 2021.

Amre, who was there for Iyer’s comeback phase, recalled that it was very painful.

You know when you are hurt and you doubt your ability to continue playing the same way as before. He was looking great in that series against England, especially. This is what happened next.He had to start over from zero.

He needed to be physically fit first, then mental. He worked hard and it never looked like he had an accident.

Amre is an expert on making Test hundred in difficult situations.Amre scored a hundred in 1992 against South Africa in Durban.

He made 103 from 288 balls and shared a stand with Kiran More.Amre expressed happiness at the fact that his 1992 feeling of joy is being felt now by his Kanpur ward.

“When you score, it is easy to feel happy. You are happier when your ward scores 100.That feeling is something you can’t compare anywhere else in the world. It’s an entirely different experience.I am glad he is experiencing that feeling, going under pressure, and everyone is looking after your after you have delivered what the team required,” Amre told IANS.
