The National Human rights Commission on Friday issued a notice to the CM Jagan Mohan Reddy led Andhra Pradesh government seeking an explanation as to why the Jajulabandha tribal hamlet in Alluri Sitharama Raju district does not have a school.
According to a statement by NHRC, the children thee faced difficulty walking six kilometres of rough terrain in the forests to attend school and hence preferred to work along with their parents.
The NHRC took suo motu cognisance of a media report in this respect.In its notice to the AP chief secretary, the commission sought to know the steps taken/proposed to address the issue as also similar instances in other parts of the state.
Quoting reports, the NHRC said there are 60 children aged between 1-10 years in the tribal hamlet.An NGO has spent about 1.2 lakhs for the construction of a makeshift school and also provided books and blackboards.
Despite these efforts, why no teacher could be provided there, the commission asked the government.
The children and their parents staged a ‘demonstration’ with folded hands on May 30 to press their plea for a government teacher if not a school in their village.
