Rice University’s Professor of Religion, Texas recently published his latest book, “People Of The Book – Prophet Muhammad’s Encounters with Christians”, that is causing waves among academic and religious circles around the world.

It is difficult to defend the honor of Prophet Muhammad. Some people would prefer me to ‘convert’ rather than defend Prophet Muhammad. Some call me a “heretic”.Some even claim that I honor him only because of his ‘fame.

The reality is beyond the condemnations and coercion. His example inspires me.”That is the truth,” Dr.Considine stated at the reaction he received.

His earlier statement, “The US Supreme Court honors Prophet Muhammad” and “Harvard University Law School recognizes the Quran” as “one of the most important books for justice in the world”, sparked debates from both sides.

He had justified his comments by saying, “I agree with these facts when people claim that Islam is incompatible US Values.”

However, there are many admirers and supporters of Dr.Considine among Indian Muslims who believe he rendered yeoman service towards interfaith understanding. Many of his statements, though not well known by the laity, are widely understood among experts and scholars on both sides.

“Not just the US Supreme Court but even the United Nations Building, New York, has Islamic insignia ,” said Haji Salman Chishty (the Gaddi Nashin, Rajasthan) and 27th direct descendant of Hazrat Khawaja Muinuddin Hasan Christy (1143-1236AD).(told IANS).

Unknown Moroccan artist created the UNO Building panel in 12th-century Morocco. The three inscriptions of the Holy Quran are: “Oh, Mankind!” You were created from male and female, and we made you into tribes and nations so that you may get to know one another.”The most honorable of you is in Allah’s sight the most righteous.

The Preamble of the United Nations Charter is Arabic. An inscribed on the UN Building’s green mosaic reads “Charter of the United Nation” in Arabic.

Professor Zeenat Shaukat, an Islamic scholar of repute, says the statements by the US Supreme Court are to be welcomed because they will have a positive impact and raise clear doubts.

It clears the air and opens the doors to peaceful coexistence.

Muslims around the world need to reciprocate,” Ali of St.Xaviers College in Mumbai and the Director-General of Wisdom Foundation (The World Institute of Islamic Studies for Dialogue and Organisation of Mediation and Gender Justice), told IANS.

Although Prof.Ali dismisses the fringe elements as “a political misnomer”, he feels that exemplary behavior by Muslims across all races, religions, and genders, with a balance between justice, equality in governance, rights for Minorities, weaker sections, interfaith dialogue among global population through humanitarian values is ‘the way forward”.

Haji Chishty noted that Maulana Jaalal ad -Din Muhammad Rumi (or just the poet “Rumi”) is much more well-known in Europe and the US than it is in Islamic countries.Madonna, the American singer, and Tilda Swinton, the British actress, were also inspired by this mystic saint.

Dr.Considine shared a quotation by Prophet Muhammad, “You don’t believe until your brother loves you as yourself.”

When someone claims he didn’t advocate for human right, I agree with them.”Prophet Muhammad” championed them approximately 1,300 years prior to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948), Dr.Considine stated.
