Hong Kong Eases Quarantine On Entry In Bid To Boost Business Activity

Hong Kong eases quarantine on the entry of foreigners in attempt to encourage economic activity

Hong Kong, Aug 8 : Hong Kong has reduced its Covid-19 quarantine requirements for international arrivals between seven and three days in an effort to attract business travelers and spur the economy in Hong Kong, the Asian financial centre.
Three days of quarantine in an official hotel room are followed by four days of “medical surveillance” the Chief Executive John Lee said on Monday.

In those four days those affected are allowed to walk around outside, but they would not be permitted to go to bars, restaurants, or other establishments which normally require evidence of vaccination, according to the DPA news agency.

The new regulations will take effect starting on Friday and were designed to facilitate the highest level of social and economic activites, Lee said.

In doing this it is clear that the Chinese special administrative region has gone higher than the officials in mainland China that require seven days of mandatory quarantine and three days of observation upon entry.

Local rules can go higher.

In contrast, Hong Kong records a few thousand new infections every day, China, by contrast is a firm zero-Covid policy that includes curfews and other restrictions to prevent any infection in the beginning.

However the measures have weakened China and placed a burden on the world’s second largest economy which grew just 0.4 percent in the second quarter.
