Himanta Sarma Slams Kejriwal for comment on the closure of schools in Assam

Guwahati 25 Aug : Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday attacked his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kjriwal after Kejriwal fired a shot at the state government led by the BJP over the closing of 34 schools in the northeastern region because of poor performance.
The news broke on Wednesday, revealing that the Assam government has decided to shut down 34 state-run schools because the fact that none of their students passed this year’s Class 10 board exams.

Responding to this, Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi, “Closing schools is not the solution.We need to start numerous new schools across the nation.Instead of closing schools, make improvements to them and improve education.”

Rebuking Kejriwal Sarma tweeted on Thursday “Dear @ArvindKejriwal Ji As usual , you have made comments on something without doing any homework! Since my time as Education Minister up to this moment, please note that Assam Govt has established/taken over 8,610 new schools.How many schools has the Delhi Government has started in the last 7 years?”

The tweet provided a breakdown of the schools that have been that have opened in the state.Sarma stated in another tweet: “Provincialisation or taking over private schools into the government fold since 2013 Elementary 6802; Secondary 1,589 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya: 81%; Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Avashik Vidyalaya 3.Adarsha Vidyalaya: 38; Tea Garden Model School:”97.”

The Assam tweeted his Delhi counterpart in the tweet, stating: “Curious to know Delhi’s figures!”

On Thursday, the Sarma’s state minister and close friend Pijush Hazarika also criticised Kejriwal.

Hazarika said that the schools in Assam aren’t being closed, but rather merged to enhance the overall educational environment.

He added that the Aam Aadmi Party’s educational model has brought down the educational system in the capital city of the nation which has reduced the Class X passing rate from 99.09 percent in 2011 , to 81.27 percent in 2022.

“The great education model of Delhi does not fare well in every aspect when in comparison to Puducherry.Kejriwal should instead travel to Assam for a better education,” the minister said.
