Mount Maunganui, New Zealand.Dec 30, : .New Zealand pacer Tim Southee praised Ross Taylor’s retirement.He said Taylor was a reserved individual but would be missed in his dressing room.
Southee acknowledged that players will need to adjust to Taylor not being in the dressing area. Taylor declared on Thursday that he would be leaving international cricket following New Zealand’s home season.The upcoming Test series against Bangladesh will mark Taylor’s farewell to Test cricket, before he takes part in his last ODI against Australia (away), and the Netherlands (home).
He’s been an integral part of our changing rooms for so many years.His quiet nature makes him a great guy.He enjoys sitting down and having a glass of wine after winning a Test.These are memories he will cherish for the rest of his life.His presence in the locker room is a joy.He’ll be missed, even though he is quite reserved.”It will take some time for men to look around without seeing Ross sitting there,” Southee said in a press conference ahead of the Test against Bangladesh.
Southee had high praises for Taylor’s solid presence in New Zealand’s batsmanship over the past 17 years.It’s always a difficult time for a player to retire, especially if they have been with the team for a very long time.You will need to adjust your perspective in order not to see Ross as a player.It was a comfort to know that Ross is a good player and that he has done a great job for the side.
According to Taylor, the 33-year old revealed that Taylor told him of his retirement decision during a training session prior to Christmas.We did some training in Hamilton before Christmas.I was told there by him.He clearly made the decision to take back what someone has said.He has been a great friend and I was able to share in his joy.It’s strange to see men leave, as I mentioned.It’s especially true for guys who have been around for quite some time.
Taylor has been New Zealand’s top run-scorer both in Tests and ODIs.
He will be playing his 111th match against Bangladesh in the two-match Test series starting January 1, 2022.
