Hauritz Wants Us To Be More Courageous, Take The Game Forward In The Middle Overs: Delany

Hauritz is urging us to show more courage Take the game forward in the middle-overs Delany

Belfast 15th August : Ireland all-rounder Gareth Delany has said he is grateful for his improved spin bowling skills to the new spin bowling coach Nathan Hauritz, saying the former Australia player has asked spinners to be more courageous when bowling in middle overs.
Delany has played in 13 ODIs and 47 T20Is in Ireland since making his debut for the international team in July of this year. However, it’s his performance with the ball that has made him stand out in Ireland’s home summer and has made him the key component of the bowling team, taking seven wickets in the last five games with an average of 19.14 and an economy rate of 7.05.

“Scott Irvine (Performance Analyst) provides us with an insightful insights on the strengths and weaknesses of each player, and as a spin unit we’ve had very productive discussions in formulating with game strategies for all of the opponents.I’ve also felt like I’ve found myself more confident in my bowling, which has been hugely beneficial.”

“While he hasn’t been with us for long it’s been great to see Nathan Hauritz join the squad — he’s settled in quickly, and we’ve had very insightful conversations with him as an spin unit thus far.The main message he’s sending us is that he would like us to be more confident and take the game to the next level in the middle oversand to try for wickets and not be afraid to go to run.”

“It is definitely helpful to have someone like Nathan who’s played at the very highest standard and is a lot of information on spin bowling, so I think we’re all eager to get started with Nathan and seeing where things take us,” said Delany ahead of the fourth T20I against Afghanistan.

Ireland are currently leading the series, which spans five matches, with a 2-1 lead. However, Delany noticed an upside to the 22-run defeat for the hosts in the third T20I and said that the lower-order contributions of George Dockrell (58 not out) and Fionn Hand (36 not out) will give them the confidence to come back in future matches.

“We’re clearly disappointed that we couldn’t been able to get over the line in the last game however, we knew how difficult it would be against these players. We probably could have slowed them down to a lesser extent, however with their power and skill in their batting line-up, it’s going to be extremely difficult to keep them in control like we did in for the past two games.”

“I believe we’ve all gained courage from the battle but, with those two blows in particular by George Dockrell and Fionn Hand who did not give up and held us in the fight until the very end. We’ve made a decision on how we’ll play, and it’s likely to be times when the top team doesn’t perform, but they got us over the line pretty easily the first two times and there’s a belief that the guys below in the line will put in impressive performances.”
