Hasina honors Bangabandhu for his 75th death anniversary

By Sumi Khan Dhaka 15 August : Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday paid tribute to her father, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to mark the 47th anniversary of his death as well as the National Mourning Day.

In the context of the state’s programme, Hasina placed a wreath on Rahman’s portrait in the front of the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi Road No 32 in the capital.

As part of an attempted coup as part of a coup, the group of angry members of the Bangladesh Army on August 15 1975, killed Sheikh Mujibur and the majority of his family members after they entered the Dhanmondi 32 house.

In addition to Sheikh Mujibur and his wife Bangamata Begum Fzilatun Mujib and their sons Sheikh Kamal Sheikh Jamal and Sheikh Russel -and three of their close relatives were killed in the incident.

The two daughters of Bangabandhu Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana — were spared the calamity since they were away during the time of the incident.

Additionally, on the Monday, a well decorated group of Bangladesh Armed Forces gave the state salute and the bugle played the tune of sorrow.

After paying tribute to Bangabandhu the premier visited the Banani Graveyard where her mother and brother, as well as others who were victims of the massacre were laid to rest.

On Sunday the Prime Minister addressed a gathering with the organizer secretary of the ruling party in her residence Ganabhaban here.

During the meeting, she stated opposition parties can organize protests in the process of democracy.

“We recognize the suffering of the people suffering from the rising cost of electricity and fuel rationing.

Many people, including those in the opposition are trying to take advantage of the situation, however, if they take advantage of it in the name of protest, the suffering of the people will only get worse,” she said.

Hasina said she has instructed authorities to let the opposition organize their protests and not to detain or disturb anyone in the process.

“The opposition will attempt to use the situation to their advantage but if they do any damage, it’s the people who will be the ones to suffer.The protesters need to realize this,” she said, adding: “If they want to attack the office of the Prime Minister then let them do it.”
