Chandigarh 14 August : Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced on Sunday the construction of a world-class war memorial that will be constructed by Panchnad Smarak Trust near Pipli town in Kurukshetra district to commemorate those who died at the time of the nation’s Partition.
At the state-wide program organized in Kurukshetra to commemorate Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, the Chief Minister stated that he would like the ‘Shaheedi Smarak or war memorial to be recognized at the national level.

This is where every part of society will be able to contribute.

He demanded people to remember the sacrifices of their ancestors and to step forward to help in the building of the monument.

The Chief Minister also said he will also contribute personal funds for the benefit of the government to fund the construction of the building.

In his tribute to the people who died during the Partition, Khattar said today could bring about a revolution in the development of India.

“On the day in 1947, the procession of India’s Independence was taking place and on the other hand, the Partition of the nation was taking place.Post-independence literature is packed of tragic tales of Partition.”

In reminiscing about the times of Partition the Chief Minister stated, “Our ancestors chose to be killed rather than changed.Now , it is our responsibility to tell these stories to the upcoming generations so that they can ensure that they are informed of the struggles and sacrifices of their grandparents.”

The Chief Minister stated that during the Partition approximately 1.20 million people were forced to leave and a large number of people were killed.”Our grandparents sacrificed their lives, showing unwavering courage for their country and our culture.”

“During Partition when the families moved to India they had no food, shelter or clothes however, they did not have to beg and struggled to achieve independence.Through their dedication they turned the barren soil rich,” said the Chief Minister.

He said that the government is looking into giving some rights to people cultivating fertile fields.He encouraged the younger generation to remember that “if we want to move our country forward we need to be mindful of our culture, society, and language.”

Moving back in time, the Chief Minister stated that he himself was raised in families that were who were displaced from Pakistan and fully understands the agony and pain of Partition.The agony of the Partition of the country will not be erased, he said.

“A thankful nation as we celebrate Independence is also awestruck by the fathers and daughters of the homeland who were forced to give up their lives in the war,” he added.

On this day, exhibitions were held on Partition Halloween Remembrance Day were held in public places such as airports, railway stations, and malls were organized throughout the state.

A film based on real tales of the relatives of more than 1,200 who were executed during the time of partition was also presented at the locations.
