Gurugram Gurugram, 16 August : Gurugram, Aug 16 : Haryana government on Tuesday congratulated Commonwealth Games medal winners, who returned home following a performance amazing in Birmingham in the Apparel House in Sector 44 here. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar promised that they would have all the support in the near future and urged them to keep up their job and to continue to bring accolades to the nation.
Haryana sportsmen brought glory to the nation when they won 20 medals including nine gold during the Commonwealth Games.
Gold medallists were awarded an amount of 1.50 crore , the silver medallists received 75 lakh, and the bronze medallists were rewarded with 50 lakh.Fourth place winners were awarded 15 lakh for each.
In conjunction with this, a sum of 7.50 lakh was also given to 7.50 lakh was also given to all sportspersons from Haryana who took part in the Commonwealth games.
“Haryana represented 33 percent of the medals awarded by India,” Khattar said.
The gold medalists of Haryana include: Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Deepak Punia, Vinesh Phogat, Ravi Dahiya and Naveen Kumar, Anshu Malik, Pooja Sihag, Pooja Gehlot, Deepak Nehra and Mohit Grewal (wrestling); Sudhir (para powerlifting), Amit Panghal, Neetu Ghanghas, Sagar Ahlawat and Jasmine (boxing); Shefali Verma (cricket); Abhishek and Surendra (men’s hockey); Sandeep Poonia (athletics); Savita Punia, Jyoti, Monika Malik, Nisha Warsi, Neha Goel, Udita, Navneet, Sharmila and Sonika(women’s hockey).
