Haryana CM approves preliminary report of Hathnikund dam

Chandigarh 18 August : Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday has approved the initial report of Hathnikund dam with an area of catchment of approximately 11,170 sq km constructed in the area of Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.It will produce 763 million units of electric power annually.
He first attended an overview meeting regarding the dam.Following that, he agreed to forward the initial report of the state Irrigation and Water Resources Department to the Central Water Commission (CWC).

In addition to the Water Commission, this report will also be sent out to five states.

The Chief Minister stated that the Hathnikund dam is an ambitious plan of the state government.

This report is vital in the development of the dam.

In the meeting the Chief Minister mentioned that every year during the monsoon, the Yamuna river region gets overwhelmed.In light of this the government has decided to construct an artificial dam in Hathnikund.Through its construction, Haryana will not only receive electricity but also access to water.

The Chief Minister said that as according to the guidelines of the Central Water Commission, it is essential to first draft an initial report in order to get its approval in principle to the creation of the detailed report.

Through the completion of the dam, groundwater recharge will begin, which will benefit farmers in the region.

In addition, the issue of flooding in the region of Yamuna river each year during the monsoon .The problem will be resolved.

The Chief Minister said that the Renukaji, Lakhwar and Kishau dams will advantage with the building of Hathnikund dam, which will serve as the reservoir that balances the flow of three dams.
