Harassment of women rises in Telangana

The latest stats say a 20 per cent increase in the harassment of women on Social media.

Telangana women are facing social media harassment in a never-before-seen manner, according to the latest statistics.

The complaints from women on social media harassment have risen to 63 per cent in 2020.Earlier it was 40 per cent of the total complaints received in the span of five years from 2014 to 2019.

According to the Women’s Safety Wing (WSW), the harassment primarily includes via WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter.Besides, harassment through email and blank calls on mobile phones have also gone up, says the details shared by WSW on the 6th anniversary of the She Teams.

She teams started the WhatsApp number (9441669988) this year on January 28.It has received 420 complaints till now, said the Additional Director-General of Police in charge of WSW, Swati Lakra.

The Telangana state government launched the She Teams on October 24, 2014, in Hyderabad providing a safe and secure environment for women.Later, in the next year, it is successfully spread across all parts of the state.

She Teams are encouraging women and children across Telangana, to address any complaint regarding harassment with the She Teams.The WSW is also trying hard to suppress the violence against women through a series of innovative awareness programmes on women’s safety.
