Gaza 16 August : Palestinian militant group, Hamas has dismissed Israel’s claim of finding a tunnel beneath the boundary between the Jewish state and the Gaza Strip, as nothing more than a plot to conceal “crimes”. “The occupation is marketing fake victories and achievements to the Israeli society to make use of it in its bazaar for electoral votes,” Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said in a statement issued on Monday.
“It is the legitimate right of the Armed Palestinian groups to collaborate in every way possible to increase their capacities” in the face of “Israel’s arrogance and its crimes against the Palestinian people”, Xinhua news agency quoted the spokesman’s statement as saying.
A little earlier in the day earlier in the day, earlier in the day, Israeli army had announced they had discovered a tunnel with two lanes that was dug by Hamas that crossed the fence that separates the Gaza Strip into the country’s territory.
The statement also stated that the tunnel didn’t penetrate the security barrier which is a high-tech underground wall constructed a year ago and designed to safeguard Israelis from attacks by Hamas.
The Gaza Strip has been under an Israeli blockade since 2007 and is currently administered by Hamas.
Both sides have engaged in several conflicts in the Palestinian enclave in recent years.
