Digboi : , Nov 20, 2018 – After repeatedly knocking at the door earlier in the season, Chandigarhs Yuvraj Sing Sandhu finally pushed it open and clinched his maiden title as Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI).He did this by securing a dominant final round score of 8 under 64 at the R.60 lakh IndianOil SERVO Masters Golf 2020 Sandhu (66-6867-67-64) set the tournament record of 23-under 265.He won by six shots with M Dharma from Bengaluru (69-6868-68-66) and was crowned the winner at 17-under 271.
Sandhu was the overnight leader, by two shots.He won the cheque for Rs.9,69,900 with an eagle and eight birdies in round 4.With his total earnings of Rs.9,69,900, he moved up to the sixth spot in 2020-2021’s PGTI Order of Merit.33,69,400.
Sandhu is the son of an Army Officer and had an extraordinary season.He has nine top-10s, six in each of the seven previous events, and was the winner on the PGTI Feeder Tour.
Two-time winner of the PGTI Feeder tour began the day by making a bogey at the first, but quickly gained ground and made birdies on the fifth, sixth, and seventh holes.He also chipped in the fifth.
M Dharma was a breath of fresh air from the third to the eighth holes, as Sandhu sank five birdies and trailed by only one stroke.Dharma made a double-bogey at the ninth due to a few erratic shots.
Sandhu made the crucial chip-putt par on the 11th.This gave him momentum and continued his hot streak of making birdies on three holes, an eagle and birdies on five more.
He extended his lead to seven shots, which sealed the deal.Sandhu was the 2019 PGTI Feeder tour Order of Merit Champion.He produced two outstanding drives: a 30-foot conversion and two 10-feet converts in his amazing run that ran from the 11th through the 16th.
Sandhu’s 17th-hole bogey didn’t alter the equation, as Dharma, his closest rival was far behind with only three birdies.Sandhu’s total score of 23-under 265 beat the 20-under 268 that Mukesh Kumar achieved in 2002 and Shankar Das 2015 respectively.
Sachin Baisoya, 66 from Delhi, matched his best career finish of tied 3rd.He totaled 15-under 273.Baisoya was also tied for third by Om Prakash Chouhan (71) of Mhow.
Harendra Gupta, 69, of Chandigarh finished fifth at 14 under 274.Deepraj Chetia, a local golfer (69-71 72-76-76), tied for 33rd at even-par 288.
