Go First’s rescue landing in Coimbatore because of a ‘false alarm’

New Delhi, Aug 12 : A Go First flight, from Bengaluru to Male on Friday, forced an emergency landing in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore due to an alarm that was false according to the regulator DGCA.
The plane with 92 passengers was flying over Tamil Nadu’s city of textiles when the pilot spotted the warning.

A Directorate General of Civil Aviation official claimed that it was an “false alarm”.

According to airport officials, the flight made an emergency landing at Coimbatore airport following an warning bell for engine overheating was rung, almost an hour after flight took off.All passengers were safely debarked.

“The issue is being investigated by the Go First engineering team and rectifying the issue is underway,” said an airline spokesperson.

In total, a number of 18 landing emergencies have occurred in the nation with aircrafts controlled by Indian scheduled airlines in the past two years.

On July 2, a flight flying between Delhi to Jabalpur was forced to return to Delhi airport after the crew observed smoking in the cabin at 5,500 feet.

There was no incident of concern and the passengers were safely disembarked after landing in emergency.

A similar flight, Calicut-Dubai, was diverted to Muscat and made an emergency landing on the 16th of July after a smell of burning was noticed in the cabin during midair.
