Gartner: Global smartphone sales to end-users down 6.8% in Q3

New Delhi : , Nov 23, 2018 – Due to component shortages in smartphones, the global sales of smartphone to end-users fell 6.8% in the third quarter 2021 when compared with the same period in 2020.This was according to a Gartner report on Tuesday.
Production schedules were disrupted by component shortages.

This resulted in lower inventories and delayed product availability.Sales to end-users eventually suffered.

Anshul Gupta is senior research director at Gartner.He stated that despite strong consumer demand, sales of smartphones fell due to delayed product launches and longer delivery times.

He stated in a statement that “supply constraints affected the production schedule for basic and utility smartphones more than premium smartphones.”

Apple took back the second place in end-user sales and Xiaomi moved to the third in the quarter.Apple saw strong demand, aided by feature upgrades and a small 5G install base.

Samsung maintained its lead in smartphone sales overall, but its market share decreased by 1.9 percent year-over-year.

Despite the general decline in sales, Samsung saw growth in its premium smartphones due to strong demand for the new foldable phones.

Global smartphone production has been slowed by the current shortage in components such as power management and radio frequency integrated circuits.

This disruption of the supply-demand balance meant that end-users had limited options at points of sale.

The report stated that sales of premium smartphones grew despite overall smartphone sales declining in the quarter.

Vivo recorded the greatest year-over-year increase (20.9 percent) of the five top global smartphone manufacturers in the third quarter.

According to Gartner, 13 smartphones were introduced by the company in quarter one to help it gain an advantage when entering new markets such as Europe, Middle East and Asia.
