Accra 13 Aug : The most recent instance of Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) confirmed in Ghana has been cleared of the disease as the Ghana Health Service (GHS) stated in an announcement. The GHS announced on Friday that the country had recorded three cases of infection, and two other patients died of the disease.
“The sole one who survived of the three recovered from the illness following two tests that were negative at the same time by the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research.The patient was released and has been returned with her family.
Ghana has no evidence of MVD,” the statement concluded.
The GHS identified 198 contacts in four districts since the outbreak and 118 of them have completed their required 21-day check-up period, Xinhua news agency reported.
In accordance with the Pandemic Management and Prevention standards and in conformity with the World Health Organisation requirements, the statement stated that the relevant state agencies would continue to conduct a heightened surveillance of MVD and other hemorrhagic viral fevers.
