Chennai 15th August : On the day of Independence Day, actor Silambarasan released the official teaser of N S Ponkumar directed period film “August 16, 1947” with actor Gautham Karthik in the lead role. The film is directed by an accomplished director A R Murugadoss along with Om Prakash Bhatt and Narsiram Choudhary.
The teaser reveals that the plot of the film takes place in the time in the year when India was on the cusp of getting Independence.
It also beautifully illustrates that in the days before there were no cameras or television, certain people, especially in the south considered Gandhi to be an imposing, tall and muscular man that the British considered to be a threat.
The teaser offers an insight into the atrocities committed by British and demonstrates the way they were devoted to creating fear among Indians.
They wanted to create fear that was so intense, that, even after independence Indians were still terrified at the sight of anyone who spoke English for the next 100 years.
The teaser was released by Simbu.stated: “A fight for freedom A force against oppression! Independence Day special, here’s the teaser of #August16_1947.”
The movie, which will feature Cooku with Comali fame Pugazh and features music composed by Sean Roldan, and cinematography done by Selvakumar.
