Veteran BJP leader and former Union Minister Jaswant Singh died of illness at a hospital in New Delhi.
Ex-Army officer Jaswant Singh had been ill since 2014 and admitted into an Army Research and Referral hospital recently.
He succumbed to the illness and passed away at 6:55 am on Sunday, according to the hospital statement.He was admitted in the hospital on June 25 to get treatment for Sepsis with Multiorgan Dysfunction Syndrome, and he had been consistently in and out of the hospital from then on.
After the news about his death broke, several political leaders and many prominent faces in different fields expressed their condolences.President Ram Nath Kovind through his twitter said “The demise of a veteran soldier, outstanding parliamentarian, exceptional leader and intellectual Shri Jaswant Singh is distressing.
He combined many difficult roles with ease and equanimity.My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.”
Expressing his pain Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted “Jaswant Singh Ji will be remembered for his unique perspective on matters of politics and society.He also contributed to the strengthening of the BJP.I will always remember our interactions.Condolences to his family and supporters.Om Shanti.”

Jaswant Singh was a very close aid to ex-prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani.
After the BJP did not give him a ticket in 2014 elections, he had participated independently, but lost.
