Former Odisha minister Sanjeeb Sahoo joins BJP

Bhubaneswar : , Nov 19, 2009: Former Odisha minister, four-time Biju Janata Da (BJD), legislator Sanjeeb Sashoo joined hundreds of supporters at a Friday function for the Bharatiya Janata Party.
In the presence of Dharmendra Pradhan (Union Minister), Samir Mohanty, president of the Odisha Unit, and other top leaders, he joined the BJP.

Sahoo stated, “I have joined the BJP to develop my constituency after consulting with my supporters and well wishers.” The party hopes to increase its support in Athmallik constituency, Angul district with his joining.

Sahoo resigned as a member of the BJD in November 2013 due to personal reasons.

In 2003, the 61-year old politician was elected MLA for Birmaharajpur Constituency in Sonepur District on a BJD ticket.

He was reelected in 2004 from the Odisha Assembly’s same constituency.In 2009, he was also elected twice from Athmallik constituency.

The BJD denied the ticket to Ramesh Chandra Sai, the former bureaucrat and four-time MLA in the 2019 elections.He felt abandoned by the BJD.

From 2006 to 2008, Sahoo served as a Minister in State (MoS), Panchayati Raj and Science and Technology.In addition, he was the MoS (independent), of School and Mass Education between 2008 and 2009 and Commerce and Transport between 2009 and 2012.
