Baghdad : , December 12th, 2006: Mustafa al-Kadhimi, Iraqi Prime Minister has stated that US-led combat troops from Iraq have been evacuated.This confirms the Iraqi forces’ ability to preserve security and stability.
Al-Kadhimi stated that the American side will withdraw all combat troops from Iraq within a matter of days in a televised speech he made during the ceremony to mark the 100th anniversary of the establishment of modern Iraqi State in 1921.

Al-Kadhimi, a Xinhua journalist, stated that “Their (remaining force) role will be within the advisory areas.This indicates the Iraqi forces’ ability to maintain the security and stability of Iraqi people.”

“Everyone should be assured, even in the middle of all the political discussion about Iraq’s early-parliamentary election results.The Prime Minister of Iraq stated that we will not permit any disruption to your security or stability.

Al-Kadhimi stated that while the path to building an Iraqi state is difficult and painstaking, it’s the only way our grandchildren and children can follow.

On December 9, Iraqi National Security Adviser Qasim al-Araji announced the end of the combat mission in Iraq and the withdrawal of the US-led coalition forces from the country.

On November 24, Tahseen al-Khafaji, spokesman of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command, said the foreign combat forces would leave Iraq within 15 days, except for some advisers who will stay to support the Iraqi forces.

On January 5, 2020, the Iraqi parliament passed a resolution requiring the government to end the presence of foreign forces in the country.

In July this year, the US and Iraq held a session of strategic dialogue, during which the two countries agreed on withdrawing all US combat troops from Iraq by December 31.
