Turkey, and Russia.

Ajay Singh, SpiceJet’s Chairman & Managing Director, spoke to IANS about the need for Indian-based carriers to offer point-to-point medium-to-long haul services.

“The time is right for Indian airlines to expand internationally.India shouldn’t depend on hubs in the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

The company will continue to explore the possibility of offering charter services to ‘wide-body’ customers in Canada and Europe.

“We will explore the possibility of long-haul scheduled operations.

We are also looking into whether we can induct wide-bodied aircraft on dry lease.

Singh, the airline’s spokesperson, stated that the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft has been reinstated and provides greater range which will help accelerate the company’s expansion plans.

“We are currently looking at destinations in Vietnam and Russia to launch new services. The 737 MAX aircraft gives us an increased range to reach remote areas of Asia.

“Aside from being fuel efficient, the aircraft is a game-changer for us.Jet fuel prices have increased with increasing passenger numbers. This aircraft is the answer to rising jet fuel prices because it burns 20% less fuel.

The aircraft was brought back after a gap approximately two-and-a half years.

The aviation regulator DGCA has recertified the aircraft using European standards.

SpiceJet is currently the only operator of 737 MAX in India.

The airline currently has 13 of these aircraft in its fleet.

It had previously signed a $22B deal with Boeing to purchase up to 205 Boeing aircraft in 2017.

The company intends to replace all 737 NGs in the next few months with MAX.

It plans to add 50 Maxs in 2022, 2023.

These aircraft will be deployed on both domestic and international routes by the airline.

The 737 MAX can fly nonstop to Singapore, Doha (Kuala Lumpur), Abu Dhabi, Riyadh.

The aircraft can also fly one-stop to reach Finland, Norway, Morocco and London.

The MAX 8 can fly upto 3,500 nautical miles, which is about 19% more than the 737-800.

This allows the airline to fly to higher destinations.

It also uses 20 percent less fuel than older 737s.
