By Hamza Ameer Islamabad August 29, : Pakistan is going through the worst floods ever due to monsoon rains with over 70 % of the country being flooded with over 1,000 dead, ready-to-go crops scattered across hundreds of thousands of acres destroyed, and more than 35 billion people which includes women and children being displaced.

The floods have caused immense destruction in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pukhtunkhwa and the southern Punjab region.

Balochistan and Sindh provinces are the most affected.

The worst-hit province, Sindh is reeling under the flood.

Yet, with more flood water moving towards the province, it is anticipating destruction, destruction and even a catastrophe.The water of the rivers that are swollen in the north which are reported to be having the highest volume and flow pressure that has smashed through bridges, cell phone towers power lines, power lines, and smashed into infrastructure for millions of people, is headed towards the province and is sending waves of fear down the spines of already suffering residents and struggling government officials.

“Water is diverted through the barrage into a number of canals that span more than 10,000 km that weave through agricultural land, but decades of neglect means they’re not capable of handling with the current record volume of water,” local irrigation expert in Sukkur, Aziz Soomro said.

“Water that comes from the Indus is already slapping its banks in many locations, and unless the Sukkur barrage can manage the flow, disaster could be the result,” he added.

The Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) has also issued a high-level flood alert in the Indus at Taunsa Barrage and Chashma Barrage situated in Punjab province.

The water levels in dams and rivers throughout the nation have reached their most danger levels with Kabul River also witnessing an extreme flood.

It’s in this perspective that FFD has issued warnings and instructions to the residents to leave the area and relocate to safer areas.

Similar warnings have been issued by the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) in the Indus River near Taunsa as well as Sukkur Barrage.

“The the inflow of water from Taunsa Barrage is 515,000 cusecs while at Sukkur Barrage, it is 562,000 cusecs” claimed an IRSA official.

The floods continue to take lives as the their total number of deaths in the country has surpassed 1,030.

The toll is steadily increasing with each passing hour.
