A huge fire broke out in a 10/16 KV transformer at the TransCo power substation in Simhachalam in Visakhapatnam.Transformers in the substation caught fire in the early hours of this morning.
The vigilant officer carefully disrupted the power supply to the remaining transformers in the substation.With this, the power supply was disrupted for hours.
Receiving the information, the fire brigade reached the spot with three firefighters and brought the fire under control.
Transco DE said the transformers caught fire at the substation due to the high temperatures.Electricity is currently being restored, he said.The transformer involved in the accident was set up 25 years ago, officials said.
EPDCLS said the power supply through the substation was restored from the remaining transformers after the fire was completely brought under control.He said the accident have caused heavy property damage and a team of officials would investigate and assess the damage.
On the other hand, heavy heat waves and excessively high temperatures due to the cyclone Yaas are causing concern.Rajahmundry in East Godavari district on Wednesday recorded the highest temperature in the state at 44.5 degrees.
