Bhubaneswar : , The Governor of Odisha Ganeshi Lal Declared the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup open.This event will see 16 top teams compete for the title.
The opening ceremony at Kalinga Hockey Stadium was also attended by Tusharkanti Behera (Minister for Sports & Youth Services), Narinder Dhruv Batra (FIH president), Padma Shri Dilip Tirkey (Hahiday Promotion Council Odisha chairman), and Gyanendro Ningombam, chief of Hockey India.This event was held before the match between France and hosts, defending Champions India.

Batra presented the Governor a replica of the Junior World Cup Trophy as a token of appreciation and gratitude.

The Governor wished all the participants the best for their campaigns at the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup Bhubaneswar 20,21.

He said, “I am extremely pleased that Odisha got the opportunity to host this showpiece.Hockey is a part of Odisha’s history.Over the years, the Sports have evolved in the country and Odisha is a preferred hub to play Hockey.”

Odisha hosted the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018 and will again do so in 2023.It is an immense pleasure that today we are hosting a Junior World Cup in Odisha.I congratulate all the players who have reached this stage.

It is a matter for great pride for their country, and we are glad to be hosting you all.I am happy to welcome all participants to India at the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2021.I want to extend a special greeting to international guests who are visiting India for the first time.He added.

Gyanendro stated, “We are absolutely thrilled that the Hockey festivities have been returned to Odisha.Odisha is highly respected for its extraordinary ability to host World-class sporting activities in the state.” This is one of largest international Hockey events and we are eternally grateful to the Government of Odisha for their support of our sport.

All 16 captains of the participating teams took a photo with the trophy during the Opening Ceremony.There were also exciting matches earlier in the day.Belgium beat South Africa 5-1 in their Pool A match, while Germany defeated Pakistan 5-2 in their Pool C match.Canada lost to Poland 0-1 their Pool B game.
