London 10 August, London : The rate of fertility in England as well as Wales is at its highest since 2012 the official figures have confirmed.
The number of live births was 624,828 reported in England as well as Wales in 2021.This was an increase of 1.8 percent from 2020 according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) announced on Tuesday.

It’s the first annual rise in live births since the year 2015 but it’s still lower than the amount of births recorded in 2019 according to the DPA news agency.

The rate of fertility total rose by 1.61 women per child in 2021, up from 1.58 in 2020 –the first time since 2012.

The biggest decrease was seen in women and girls younger than twenty years of age (16 percent) and women who were between 35 and 39 saw their fertility rates increase by 5 percent.

The rate of fertility increased in every region of England in 2021 Except for London as well as the West Midlands.

Also, the figures reveal that there were stillbirths of 2,597 in 2021, which is an increase of 226 over the previous year.

of the total of the number of live births in 2021, 4450505 were to UK-born women while 179,726 were non-UK-born women and in 47 births, the location of the mother’s country was not specified.

The proportion of live births for non-UK-born women fell to 28.8 percent in 2021, down from 29.3 percent in 2020.

It was the same proportion in 2019 and is the result of more of British-born women who gave birth.

Romania became the most frequent nation of birth for mothers born outside of the UK in 2021, whereas Pakistan remains the most frequent nation of birth for fathers who are not born in the UK.
