Gandhinagar 9 August : A farmer has taken possession of the movable assets, such as printers and computers of the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam at its Gandhinagar office in Gujarat in an effort to pay his long-running dues as directed by the civil court. He was in the possession of at least nine CPUs a similar number of monitors seven printers, and 17 chairs belonging to Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd (SSNNL) on the evening of Saturday.
Damodar Patel, a farmer is from the Abhol village of Vadodara district has donated his property to the state government to construct of the Narmada canal about 34 years ago.However, he he has yet received the complete amount of compensation the lawyer for his client said.
The government of the state in 1990 owed 225 rupees per square yard in compensation to Patel.When the state government failed to pay the amount, Patel took the former before the Additional Civil Sessions Judge of Vadodara.
The court has increased the amount of compensation by 225 percent to 1,725 for land that is irrigated and Rs 1,300 for land that is not irrigated Patel said.Patel.
Despite numerous court rulings in favor of Patel Patel, the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam refused to compensate him.
The advocate for the farmer R.D.Parmar informed to the media that the court ordered the SSNNL to acquire possession of moveable properties of the SSNNL in the middle of July.
The court on August 5 issued another order, directing the farmer to be in possession of the property that is movable.Thus, Parmar along with Patel took chairs, computers and computers and chairs from the SSNNL Gandhinagar office on a Saturday.
SSNNL must pay Rs 11 lakh with interest as compensation to the farmer.
SSNNL Director General J.P.Gupta was, however, unavailable to comment.
